English is great at absorbing words from other languages, like ‘shadenfreude’ or ‘chutzpah’. But the words you probably know from Transeurasian languages, from Turkic to Slavic, are more ominous: kompromat, horde, vampire.
True, wars, including Russia’s ongoing assault of Ukraine, have dominated our newsfeeds. Luckily, the TEA Collective of Transeurasian Writers & Translators can help us move past the headlines and enrich our vocabulary and understanding of life elsewhere to include joy, camaraderie, and resilience in the face of fear and loss.
The TEA Collective invites you to a literary tea party with stories by mixed-genre writers with roots from Serbia, Ukraine, Russia, and the Armenian Diaspora that put into words what is difficult to say and nearly impossible to translate. We’ll integrate music and "tasting notes," words in other languages hidden under your seats that will help us give voice to experiences and feelings that we didn’t know we had.
The multi-award winning, longest-running poetry slam on the West Coast presents the 2026/2027 Berkeley Slam Team Showcase. This team, formed through fierce competition among the top competitors in the Bay Area poetry slam scene, is embarking on an unprecedented endeavor to collaborate for a full year to create group poetic pieces that push the boundaries of the spoken word art form. Blending individual poetic voice, choral power, and genre-bending choreography, they will perform works exploring themes of marginalization, resilience, and community empowerment.
In dark times words become weapons and visions become lifelines. In these turbulent times, queer, immigrant, and trans writers take the stage to speak truth, bear witness, and dare to imagine something better. This is a night of resistance and radical dreaming — where poetry and prose push back against fascism and reach toward a future where all of us are free. Curated and hosted by Baruch Porras Hernandez, this gathering brings together voices that refuse to be silenced, stories that refuse to disappear, and a community that refuses to stop fighting for joy, dignity, and belonging. With performances by Preeti Vangani, Gio! And special musical guest Mobby Rosas!

Ever long to be a Troubadour? This program is part standup, part musical act, part word-association, but all creative joy. Crowd participants will be asked to shout out mythos ideas—what does every literary universe need? Who are the epic heroes? What quests must they undertake? What boons do the characters gain?
These ideas will be documented by the host and then the writers will craft an epic poetic narrative from the free-association, live on stage. The host will sing/perform the final act aloud for the audience with musical accompaniment. Saddle up for a wild wild adventure.
